Saturday – The Big Sugar Creek Garden Kickoff!!

Sugar Creek Garden (formerly called Oakhurst farm), the newest site of our beloved Oakhurst Community Garden Project, is ready to break ground this weekend!

Located behind Oakhurst Presbyterian Church at East Lake Drive and Second Avenue (across the street from the dog park), this new garden will host “farm-like” rows for growing vegetables, all kinds of fruit, perennial vegetables and medicinal herbs.

It will be open to the community for ongoing volunteer efforts and education classes, including three important involvement opportunities this month:

> Ground-breaking workday: Saturday, April 3, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. We will be creating veggie beds with shovels and compost.
> Oakhurst Presbyterian workday, Saturday, April 17, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. we’ll be building the outdoor classroom, removing invasive species and planting seeds.
> Ribbon cutting with Decatur city officials: Monday, April 19, 4:30-5:30 p.m. A celebration of the “official” opening of the new garden.
