Park and Recreation Professionals Day is Today!

As part of Park and Recreation Month, we are celebrating Park and Recreation Professionals Day on Friday, July 15. This is a day to rise up for all the dedicated professionals who build strong, vibrant and resilient communities through the power of parks and recreation.

We’re going to kick off our Employee Spotlight series with one of Decatur Active Living’s newest employees, Jerome Lewis, Jr.

Jerome was born in Scottdale, Ga and raised in Decatur, Ga by Jerome and Janice Lewis. Jerome graduated and played football for Southwest DeKalb High School in 2011 and went on to play for Tuskegee University in 2017. After college, Jerome starting out as a substitute teacher for the DeKalb County School System. He ran into an old coach at Southwest DeKalb where they had a mutual agreement on him becoming an assistant coach. Jerome took the job to be an Assistant Running Back Coach for Southwest DeKalb High School (2017-2020); where he mentored and trained athletes to become better players and men. This helped start his own football training and mentoring program; NewMe Athletics. Jerome loves sports and has a competitive nature making him a great fit as Decatur Active Living’s Athletic Assistant Program Supervisor.
