Tour of Homes Proceeds Presented to Decatur Youth Fund and the Decatur Preservation Alliance

Mayor Pro Tem Jim Baskett presented checks for $4500 each  to the Decatur Youth Fund and the Decatur Preservation Alliance at last night’s City Commission meeting. The  money is from proceeds of the annual Decatur Holiday Candlelight Tour of Homes held last December. Susan Cobleigh accepted the check for the DPA and Greg White and Cheryl Burnette accepted the money for the Decatur Youth Fund.

Thanks to the families who opened up their homes for the Tour of Homes and all the volunteers who make the event possible.

Scenic Fall Strolls at Woodlands Garden

Here’s a  great way to enjoy Fall Sundays in Decatur: take a stroll to Woodlands Garden and enjoy the outdoors in Decatur’s own “miniforest”. Beginning October 24th and running through November 28th, Woodlands Garden will be open each Sunday from 2 until 4 pm. You may want to park in the county deck, which is free on weekends, and take a walk down Clairemont to the Garden located at 920 Scott Boulevard. The strolls are cosponsored by the Decatur Preservation Alliance and Decatur Active Living.

Take A Stroll This Sunday in the Decatur Cemetery

With the weather starting to cool off, it is a great time to enjoy some of the great outdoor spaces in Decatur. The Decatur Preservation Alliance invites the community to the Second Sunday Strolls this Sunday, September 12, at 2:30 p.m. in Decatur Cemetery.  This guided tour of the oldest part of the cemetery is led by volunteer and Decatur Cemetery expert Cathy Vogel and lasts approximately one hour.

Whether this is your first visit or your 30th, you’ll learn something you didn’t know about metro Atlanta’s oldest public burial space.  Meet at the well house gazebo  off of Commerce Drive.

And if you can’t make this Sunday’s walk, join them on October 10 for the final tour of the 2010 season.  Second Sunday Strolls are offered each second Sunday, May through October, and are sponsored by Friends of Decatur Cemetery Committee, a project of Decatur Preservation Alliance.

What a great way to stay active in Decatur!
