4th Annual Urban Coop Tour Coming in September

WHICH CAME FIRST, THE URBAN COOP OR THE TOUR?

Backyard chickens are in more and more in-townAtlantaneighborhoods with families, community gardens and neighborhood co-ops getting in on the action. The dual benefits of farm fresh eggs as well as the experience of reclaiming ownership of the food chain have inspired hundreds of people to get involved.  You can’t get any more local than walking outside your door and gathering eggs….and the chickens are pretty cute, too.

The Oakhurst Community Garden Project and Georgia Organics are teaming up to present the 4th annual tour on September 24 and 25. Visit  24 urban coops in Decatur, Virginia-Highlands/Morningside/Inman Park and Grant Park/Ormewood Park.  Each neighborhood will feature 8 coops on the self-guided tour.

The tour will highlight the benefits of backyard chickens as well as the potential pitfalls and solutions.  Coop owners will be available to answer questions and provided details on their coop designs and to share their experiences with “the girls”.

Tickets are $15 for Oakhurst Community Garden Project and Georgia Organics members; $20 for early registration and $25 for day of tour and the tickets are valid for both days.
