Staying Healthy During the Holidays

Olympian Jeff Galloway sends along some advice for staying healthy over the holidays:

“I encourage you to keep up your fitness plan through the holidays and then get the new year started off with a bang.  It’s easy to get distracted with holiday festivities and goodies, but you can remind yourself of how far you have come and how far you want to go to help keep things in line.  Here are just a few simple ideas that might help, but I would also love for you all to post some of things that work for you on our Facebook page.  Your tip might be just the thing that would help someone else.

* Sign up for a holiday run/walk. (Sign up for Decatur Booster Club’s Run With the Dogs on January 7th)

* Run or walk through your neighborhood and look for decorations.  A family member, friend or neighbor might enjoy going too, and, hey, why not make it a regular thing?

* Eat before you go to a party so you won’t be hungry and will be better able to resist overdoing it with the always-tasty-but-not-necessarily-healthy refreshments.

* Make a plan for 2012.  Do you want to run more events?  Go further?  Lose some weight?  Improve your cholesterol level or blood pressure numbers?  Reduce your stress level?  Be specific on both your goal and the steps to accomplish it.
