There are times when your anger grows so great, you can’t even see straight. It’s not only emotionally upsetting, it can increase your blood pressure and your risk of heart attack. Let’s face it, managing difficult emotions – such as anger, stress and frustration – requires extra effort. So, how do you bring these intense emotions under control? Begin by restoring your calm. Disengage from the situation by taking a walk or sitting quietly and breathing deeply. Every time your mind is struck by an angry thought, label it as “anger” and gently let it go. As your mind begins to clear, identify what’s triggering your emotions and, without judgement, think about how you can respond in a calm, rational manner. With practice, you’ll find you can manage even difficult emotional flare-ups more easily.
