We Love Our Crossing Guards!

It’s Crossing Guard  Appreciation Week and the City of Decatur enjoyed hosting our guards for a special breakfast. Each year the Police Department and Active Living partner to host a breakfast where we give each guard a gift and a certificate.

Our crossing guards get up early to make sure our children get to school safely and then return in the afternoon to get them home, no matter what the weather conditions are. They are an integral part of our Safe Routes to School program and we all appreciate them very much.

They take pride in getting to know the children and their families and miss them when they grow up and no longer go to the city schools. Be sure to thank a crossing guard next time you see them- give them a wave, a card, or a smile.
