As the school bells ring around the City Decatur on Wednesday, August 1 remember that many of our youth walk and bike to school. Decatur has had an active SRTS program since 2005 and keep in mind some of the safety tips
- Drivers slow down and follow the traffic rules in school zones.
- Use a crosswalk and obey crossing guards.
- Wear a helmet when riding a bike to school.
- Use main streets and travel in groups when walking to school.
- Talk about bus safety.
- Be smart about posting back-to-school first day pictures on your social media.
- Get to know the other children and parents in your neighborhood and make sure your children use the “buddy system” when walking to and from school.
- If you are in the downtown area notice the new blue logos “Walk Your Wheels”.
Decatur SRTS Facts:
