10:45 am- 11:45am  Planning Your Garden for Seed Saving

In the days before seed catalogs, collecting and saving seeds for the next year’s garden was essential. Today, seed saving plays a critical role in preserving rare, heirloom varieties and the garden heritage they represent. Join Seed Savers Exchange to discuss the process of saving seed from garden fruits and vegetables – tomatoes, squash, peppers, melons, beans, and more – and learn how to participate in this backyard preservation.

Grant Olson – Public Programs Manager – Seed Savers Exchange

Grant Olson joined SSE in 2011 as the Education Coordinator and Display Gardener at Heritage Farm. Now in the role of Public Programs Manager, Grant guides interpretation and programming as well as education and outreach both on and off the farm. He works with schools and other visitors to teach the value of genetic diversity in our food system and how individuals can participate in preserving this diversity in their home gardens.
