This year, Decatur Education Foundation and the Decatur Arts Alliance are partnering on the run and proceeds will support art grants (in our schools and community) as well as the Mary Miller Decatur Youth Fund which provides scholarships for low-income students to participate in city programs.

Start your day with the 5K and then stay and enjoy the Oakhurst Arts and Music Festival.

Race starts and ends at One Step at a Time running store located at 650 East Lake Drive, Decatur, GA 30030.

On July 15th attend the Team Decatur Kickoff Event at the Decatur Recreation Center, 6 – 8 pm.

Join Mayor Baskett and Race Director and Olympian Jeff Galloway for this fun event which kicks off the free eight week training program offered through September 10.

• Health and Fitness Expo featuring local businesses sharing information on getting and keeping fit and nutrition.
• Wear fitness clothes to participate in fun activities including Jazzercise, Tai Chi, Aerobics and more.
• Drawings for prizes including free fitness classes, gift certificates and more
• Get information on Team Decatur, the running and walking group formed to participate in the Kaiser Permanente Run/Walk 5k. This is our fourth year!
• A special appearance by Doc Broc!
• Meet Olympian Jeff Galloway
• Learn about “Bright at Night” and receive a free blinkie light to keep you safe.

Team Decatur held its first 2014 social last night at The Corner Pub and attendees were surprised with a visit from former Olympian Jeff Galloway. They asked him questions about their running habits and got some good free advice.

Team Decatur was formed in 2010 to participate in the Kaiser Permanente Corporate 5k held in September in downtown Atlanta. The team had over 200 participants last year. MARCH 15, 2014

We are excited to announce that for the first time the Tour deCatur 5k will use timing chips giving you instant and accurate race results when you cross the finish line!

The Tour deCatur, now in its 12th year, gives participants the opportunity to run a 5k road race and/or a 1-mile fun run through neighborhoods of Decatur. This event started as a grassroots fundraiser for the Decatur Education Foundation and has grown into a community wide tradition with over 2500 participants. One registration fee allows participation in any of the events: 5k, 1 mile or Tot Trot. Funds raised by this event support Decatur youth by removing obstacles to education, fueling personal effort and supporting teacher innovation.

  • 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk: 8:45am
  • 5K Road Race/Walk: 9:15am
  • Tot Trot (age 4 and under): 10am

 

Staging Area: Decatur High School located at 310 N. McDonough Street, Decatur, GA 30030. Parking available in the Decatur HIgh upper lot off E. College Avenue or at Agnes Scott College.

Race route: Due to construction we will need to modify the race route and will post when finalized. Event will be held rain or shine and will only be cancelled due to severe conditions which would make the route unsafe.  NO refunds will be issued.

Tour deCatur is a qualifying run/walk event in the Team Decatur Grand Slam Fitness Challenge.

 

* T-shirts are NOT guaranteed for people registering after February 28th. Registration for all ages goes up to $30 after February 28, 2014.

Decatur Active Living and 11 Alive are planning an Olympic All Access Pass Show this Thursday, February 13 from 5-6 pm on the Old Courthouse Square to celebrate the Sochi Olympics. 11 Alive will be anchoring live and we want YOU to join us. Wear your Team Decatur shirt or other Decatur logo wear, bring signs, be creative. Here is the show that was broadcast in Dallas during the Summer Olympics. YOU can be on TV!

Date: Thursday, February 13th
Location: Old Courthouse Square
Arrival Time: 4:30 pm
Broadcast: 5 – 6 pm

The show is part of the Fall In Love Indie-Catur event that takes place from 5-8 pm. There will be free gifts and goodies, food samples, free photos with the Valentines Couple, and more. For more information click here.

Run With the Dogs: Register by Friday to Receive Early Bird Discount

The Decatur Bulldog Boosters invite you to start 2014 off on the right foot by participating in the 9th annual Run With The Dogs 5K on Saturday, January 11.

The Run With The Dogs is the first qualifying event in the  City of Decatur’s 2014 Grand Slam Fitness Challenge.

Register online at www.active.com (search “Run With The Dogs”) by Friday (1/3/2014) to take advantage of a 20% discounted fee.

Run or walk this 3.1 mile course through the neighborhoods of the City of Decatur. Challenge yourself or just come out with friends and neighbors for the health of it. Dog owners are invited to bring their canine companions.

Long sleeved event t-shirts are guaranteed to all pre-registered participants.

All canine companions will receive a special commemorative event kerchief.

The run/walk begins at 9AM in front of Decatur High School at 310 North McDonough Street. Registration begins at 8AM. Discounted registration for Decatur school system students, teachers and staff and for City of Decatur employees. All proceeds support the athletic programs of Decatur High and Renfroe Middle Schools.

Bonus: Pop into the EXPO at the Decatur Recreation Center afterwards to learn about all the new classes and activities we offer in 2014.

Team Decatur and the KP Corporate Run/Walk

Team Decatur members are getting excited about the KP Corporate Run/Walk to be held this Thursday in downtown Atlanta. This is the fourth year that TD has participated and our team is 210 strong! The newly designed shirts are very bright orange so the Team will definitely stand out!

Thanks to Clay at Fleet Feet for being not only a sponsor, but hosting the “pick up” of the shirts.

We appreciate all of our sponsors who make it possible to have great shirts, a surprise gift this year, and catering from the Oakhurst Market at the Team Decatur tent.  By the way, you can find the Team Decatur tent at P163 and by following the bright orange trail of shirts :-).
