Georgia State Parks Launch “Tons of Fun”

Active Living had the opportunity to join the staff of Georgia Department of Natural Resources for a Georgia Food Day Luncheon to help launch the new Tons of Fun Program. The Tons of Fun Fitness Challenge is designed to encourage better choices when it comes to health and wellness. The emphasis is on making exercise and nutrition fun. After all, fitness can literally be a walk in the park!

Healthy and Delicious Chicken Skewers

The luncheon  featured a “Healthy Picnic in the Park” by Todd English, a meal that will help educate famlies at future community events in Georgia State Parks. We were lucky to be served this delicious and healthy lunch at the St. Regis in Atlanta. Not only was the setting beautiful, but we came away with Todd’s new Cookbook, hot off the press!

There will be an event that the community is invited to this Saturday at Panola State Park from 10am until 2pm. Join in the fun for healthy cooking demonstrations, a farmers market, organic gardening and composting exhibits, wall climbing, guided hikes, geocaching, walking shelter dogs, games and more. Be sure to bring your bike or hiking shoes to explore the park’s trails. $5 parking.  Information at 770-389-7801 or click here for a full schedule of Tons of Fun events.

Todd English? Lucky you! I went to one of his restaurants in Chicago. This sounds like a great program.

Thank you for joining us and spreading the word about Tons of Fun! Panola Mountain State Park is so close to town, but feels a million miles away. We’re waiving the parking fee from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. this Saturday, so you can come to this event for free! You can even sample Todd English’s “healthy picnic in the park” menu.
