Diabetes awareness month is here and locals are educating us!

1418371_10102693384612490_58878308_nSpecial talks and walks this week to educate us all on living with diabetes included a talk with Kay Jordan, President of the Diabetes Action Network at the National Federation for the Blind here in Georgia. Kay is a regular walker here at the Rec center and is joined twice monthly by Willard, Robert and other vision impaired patrons to walk on our upper level walking track. Kay encouraged the Keenagers who attended a monthly meeting to not only hear her story, take some handouts on resources for healthy diet, and managing blood sugar, she also led a walk on our indoor track. What a healthy, positive inspiration she is!

Our weekly Walk With a Doc also focused on switching your diet from a summer one to a winter one. These tips and others on naturopathy were shared by Gedalia Genin, ND who led the walk this week through the Sycamore corridor among the many leaves of fall color scattered about. The national office has sent tips on how to keep warm and comfy in the cold weather months to that we can keep exercising.
