Celebrate National Food Day in Decatur

National Food Day is on Wednesday, October 24, 2012.
Check out one or both of these celebrations in the City of Decatur:

On National Food Day Global Growers will celebrate and build the movement towards healthy, affordable, and sustainable foods, by hosting a volunteer work day and pot-luck lunch at Decatur’s Kitchen Garden. The work day will run from 9am until noon on Wednesday, October 24th, with a potluck lunch to follow. Activities for the day include fall gardening work: wood chipping, orchard cleanup, and other around-the-garden activities.

Celebrate Food Day by shopping at the Decatur Farmers Market on Wednesday, October 24th from 4-7pm. Grab some delicious picnic food and walk across the street to our Food Day Eat-In outside of the First Baptist Church and enjoy your fresh, local food with fellow Food Day supporters. Local musicians will provide entertainment.

Decatur Active Living Celebrates Food Day 2012 with Free Grocery Store Tour at Publix

The second annual Food Day will be held on October 24, 2012.  Celebrated nation-wide, this is a day to focus on healthy, sustainable and affordable food. Events are being held all over Georgia and Decatur is celebrating by offering a free grocery tour!

A grocery tour is a casual, “hands on” approach to learning how to read a food label and plan healthy meals. The tour leader, trained in nutrition, leads participants through fresh, frozen and canned food aisles to learn about fiber, sodium and the many nutrients in food!  This is a great opportunity to get all your questions answered by the expert!

This one hour tour will be offered Saturday, October 13th from 9:30-10:30 am at Publix, 2155 North Decatur Road. The tour is FREE to the community but participants must register in advance by contacting cheryl.burnette@decaturga.com or 678-553-6541. The tour is limited to six participants.
