Summer Solstice Yoga June 21 on the Square – Community Invited

Decatur Active Living invites the community to celebrate the Summer Solstice on Thursday, June 21 at 6 pm on the Old Courthouse Square in downtown Decatur.

Throughout history, many cultures have associated the summer solstice with a renewal of mind, body and spirit in a celebration of the sense of joyfulness and the fun that the sunshine evokes in all of us. Come together to celebrate with a community practice. If it rains, we will move to the Decatur Recreation Center.

Bring your mat, water and your sense of fun. The event is free, however we encourage a $10 donation to the Decatur Youth Fund. No one will be turned away.

Summer Solstice FREE Yoga Tomorrow!

DSC01928Celebrate the start of summer with a Summer Solstice Yoga practice tomorrow, June 24 at 9 am with Cheryl Burnette and Mamie Mabery.

Enjoy yoga on the courtyard at Beacon Center, located between the Police Station and Ebster Recreation Center, 420 W Trinity Place. If it rains, we will practice in the Ebster gymnasium. Entrance to the gym is on Electric Avenue.

The event is FREE, however we will gladly take donations for  the Mary Miller Decatur Youth Fund which ensures that children are able to attend after-school programs and camps by giving scholarships to those in need.

International Day of Yoga is Sunday

make time for yogaJoin Cheryl Burnette and Mamie Mabery to celebrate the first annual International Day of Yoga on the Summer Solstice. We will begin our practice at 9am on Sunday, June 21 at the Herring-Trinity Terrace (the green space between Decatur Police and Ebster Recreation Center).

Bring a mat and water. It will be warm, but we will be in the shade. Rain is not expected, but if it does rain, we will practice inside Ebster Gym.

June 21 has also been proclaimed International Day of Yoga. Even if you have never done yoga, grab a mat and join us. RSVP on facebook.

Celebrate the beginning of Summer and the Summer Solstice with Yoga on the Square!

Join Marti Yura and Cheryl Burnette to welcome in the longest day of the year with a Summer Solstice Yoga Practice. Throughout history, many cultures have associated the summer solstice with a renewal of mind, body and spirit and a celebration of the sense of joyfulness and fun that the sunshine evokes in all of us.

Come together with the Decatur Community to celebrate with a morning practice that includes asana, chanting, and sun salutations.

The event will be held on June 21 at 9 am on the Old Courthouse Square in downtown Decatur.

The event is free, but donations for the Decatur Youth Fund will be accepted. Please bring your own mat.
