Youth Baseball Season Cancelled

It is with regret that Decatur Active Living has made the decision to cancel the 2020 youth baseball season due to COVID-19. After reviewing CDC guidelines, group gathering guidelines and the Governor’s Executive Order, the decision was made to look at youth sports from a public health perspective.  Our first priority is to keep the Decatur community and City of Decatur employees safe.

Decatur Active Living looks forward to seeing you for Youth Baseball Season 2021!

Take Me Out to the Ballpark: Opening Day Parade is Saturday

Youth Baseball Opening Day is this Saturday, June 1 and the best way to start the day is with a parade!

The parade begins at McKoy Park at 11 am and continues through the Oakhurst Business District, down East Lake Drive, and into Oakhurst Park. All the Youth Baseball Teams will be showing off their new uniforms and waving flags. Line the streets and cheer them on.

After the parade stop by Oakhurst Park to see the first  pitch thrown out at noon and then stay to watch some games.

Youth Baseball Opening Day

Youth Baseball opened the season this past Saturday with the Opening Day Parade, followed by an afternoon of baseball and fun at Oakhurst Park. The first pitch was thrown out by James Moore, a former player with the Atlanta Black Crackers.

James “Red” Moore threw out the first pitch. With Mr. Moore are Decatur Football Coach Brad Wagoner, Mike Glenn, Mayor Bill Floyd and Larry Williams.

Trey Padgett of Superior Chevrolet presented a sponsorship check to Mayor Floyd, Director Greg White and Athletic Program Supervisor Stacy Green.

Hundreds of children started their season and had fun playing on the playground before and after their games.
