This morning we saw quality of life in Decatur with the support of the Opening Day Youth Baseball Parade. Players in uniform, coaches, parents, grandparents, bikes, dogs and electric cars. Special Guest- Commissioner Kecia Cunningham, Mike Glenn- Atlanta Hawks, Clarence Scott- Cleveland Browns and he grew up in the Beacon community and Harry Flournoy- Texas Western NCAA Basketball Champions 1966 and Harry graced the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1966. Thanks to Stacy Green, Lindsey Struck and other Decatur Active Living staff for ogranizing the day. Thanks to the City of Decatur support from the parade permit, police and fire department. Pictures from the parade and thanks Decatur.

Buzz around eight Decatur community gardens, parks, and a woodland sanctuary on National Kids to Parks Day, May 16, a nation-wide day of outdoor play encouraging children to explore their local, state, and national parks and public lands. Garden Go Seek is a kid-oriented, family-friendly scavenger hunt designed to get you out of the house and into Decatur’s beeeee-autiful green spaces. And it won’t sting your family budget because it’s free!
Look for volunteers at each site from 11 am to 2 pm to answer questions. Can’t visit all eight in one day? Spread them out throughout the week or all summer!
