Due to the threat of freezing weather in the next few days, the city’s water fountains will have to be winterized over the weekend.
The new fountains in front of Decatur Recreation Center and the water at Scott Garden will be left on as the pipes to these water sources are equipped with a heater.
Be sure to bring your water bottle as you visit the city’s parks, playgrounds and dog parks.

Why not take the family out for a healthy meal on Tuesday night and be rewarded for it? Decatur Active Living and Decatur Tourism have partnered to promote healthy eating with the Eat Well Indie-Catur campaign happening in October. Eat out at any of the participating restaurants, choose the special healthy meal offered on Tuesday, get your tracker card signed by the wait person and you are on your way to earning a recipe collection! How easy is that?
Eat out any three Tuesdays, get those three signatures on your card and then turn your card in at the Decatur Visitors Center to earn your FREE recipes.
There are three Tuesdays left in the month, so get started this week! Cards are available at the participating restaurants.
This is a great opportunity to try some new dishes.

No, not the tv show, the real deal! The City of Decatur has nearly 57 acres of developed parks available for the enjoyment of residents and visitors. Park names, locations and descriptions are online. In addition, there are a number of greenspaces and neighborhood parks. Look for a park in your neighborhood.
Share pix on our facebook page of YOU enjoying City of Decatur parks, and include this hashtag in your photo caption #ParkRecLuv to show the love during July!

A large group from Decatur participated in Georgia Rides to the Capitol yesterday, despite the cold weather and the little snow flurries. Twelve elected officials and over a hundred riders met up with the Roswell group and rode to the Capitol steps in order to raise support for improved conditions for cycling, including the development of regional systems of both on-road bicycling facilities and multi-use-trails.
Former Mayor Bill Floyd joined Commissioner Fred Boykin leading the Decatur group. At the Capitol there were speeches by Commissioner Boykin, Roswell Mayor Jere Woods, Lieutenent Governor Casey Cagle and other supporters of safe bicycling in Georgia. Check out the Active Living Facebook Page for more photos.

What a nice way to spend the Sunday after Thanksgiving! Consider riding your bike or walking over to Woodlands Garden for a pleasant Sunday afternoon, November 25 from 2-4pm.
From Ruby Bock:
Complete your holiday weekend with a quiet walk on the trails through the woods here at Woodlands Garden. The Japanese maples are stunning this year, and we hope they will hold their leaves through the weekend. Beech trees are coming into their glory with shades of brown, gold and yellow. The birds seem to be very happy, and we’ve had several major hawk sightings recently.
We’re expecting perfect autumn weather, and we’ll build a warm fire and serve hot drinks in the Pavilion.
