Third Friday Bike Ride: Light up the Night!

b180d397e6Join Decatur Active Living for the October Third Friday Bike Ride on Friday, October 19 at 6:30 p.m. This month’s theme is “Light up the Night!” and participants will receive free glow sticks, bracelets and necklaces. Be sure to have lights on your bike and wear something bright and/or reflective.

This month you will want to arrive early to visit with the GA Commute Options folks  who will be joining us from 5:30 – 6:30 pm with info and to get your glow goodies.

Meet in front of the Decatur Recreation Center. Wheels down at 6:30 pm. We will ride 6 miles and then retire to a local watering hole for refreshments. This is a  social paced no-drop ride. Not recommended for children.

Hop on your bike and join us! All are welcome.

Decatur Third Friday Bike Ride will be held on Friday, August 17 at 6:30 pm. This month’s theme is “Ride Like a Pirate.” Last year’s ride was so much fun, we had to do it again!

We will ride 6 miles around Decatur neighborhoods at a social pace then visit a local watering hole for refreshments. Pirate garb is optional, but encouraged. Meet in front of the Decatur Recreation Center located at 231 Sycamore Street, Decatur, and be ready to put wheels down at 6:30 pm.

This ride is not recommended for children. Helmets are required for all city-sponsored rides.

Third Friday Bike Ride is June 15: Beach Theme!

The theme for the June bike ride is “the beach!” Wear your beachy garb, decorate your bike, or just come and ride. We will cycle 6 miles around Decatur neighborhoods, then afterward we will visit the Summer in the City event on the Square for food and fun. (The after event is optional, of course.)

The first 20 people will receive a lighted lei to wear on the ride!

Meet in front of the Decatur Recreation Center and be ready to put wheels down at 6:30 pm. Be sure to bring water and a helmet. Helmets are required for all city sponsored rides.

Join Decatur Active Living for the monthly Third Friday Bike Ride on August 18 at 6 pm. In August we will “ride like a pirate!” Costumes and/or props are encouraged. The first 20 riders to show up will receive a special pirate bandanna!

Meet in front of the Decatur Recreation Center and be ready to roll at 6 pm for this 5-6 mile ride around Decatur neighborhoods. After the ride we will visit a local watering hole for refreshment and fun.

This is a slow-paced social, no-drop ride. Riders should be familiar with how to use their gears and be able to ride up small hills. It’s Georgia and hard to avoid them!

Helmets are required to City sponsored rides. Lights are strongly encouraged.

We ride approximately 6 miles and then visit a local watering hole for refreshments.

Third Friday Fun bike Ride-Halloween Version!

We will ride approximately 5 miles at a  leisurely pace through Decatur neighborhoods enjoying the early Halloween decor. The ride is no-drop: no one will be left  behind! After the ride we will stop for refreshments at a Decatur watering hole.

Meet in front of the Decatur Recreation Center and be ready to ride at 6:30 pm. Helmets and lights are required. Halloween decor or costumes are optional.

This month Lee Leonard will be our ride leader for a 5-6 mile ride around Decatur neighborhoods. Meet in front of the Decatur Recreation Center and be ready to ride at 6:30 pm. After the ride we will visit a neighborhood watering hole for fun and refreshments.

All levels of riders are welcome – no one will be left behind!

Be sure to wear a helmet and have a light on your bike. The ride home gets a bit dark.

Friday, October 17:

Saturday, October 18:
Bike Registration and Safety Event at the Decatur Housing Authority, 10 am until Noon. Register your bicycle witih the Decatur Police, ride the children’s safety course and learn signals, lane changing and more. Fairies in the Garden, Woodlands Garden, 2 until 5 pm. Information is here. We went to this in the past and it was awesome!! Not only do you feel like you have left the city while wandering the garden, but the little Fairie Homes are so creative and stoke the imagination. Consider walking or biking over as parking is limited. Or park at Westchester School and walk over.
