Decatur Third Friday Bike Ride will be held on Friday, August 17 at 6:30 pm. This month’s theme is “Ride Like a Pirate.” Last year’s ride was so much fun, we had to do it again!
We will ride 6 miles around Decatur neighborhoods at a social pace then visit a local watering hole for refreshments. Pirate garb is optional, but encouraged. Meet in front of the Decatur Recreation Center located at 231 Sycamore Street, Decatur, and be ready to put wheels down at 6:30 pm.
This ride is not recommended for children. Helmets are required for all city-sponsored rides.
The holiday season is a time of togetherness, decadent food, and colder temperatures. While we all have different emotions around the holidays, one thing’s for sure – we’re busy! Guest blogger, Nicole Pepper, has a few tips to keep you on track and even make fitness during holidays more fun.
Simply Delicious open house is August 20 from 7p-9p in the Decatur Recreation Center kitchen. Come and meet the chefs who will be teaching a hands on cooking class on 1st and 3rd Tuesdays all Fall/Winter. Jerilynn, Charli, and Jennifer will be on site preparing a few fresh dishes to highlight the future classes. Come enjoy a free sample of the simple, delicious, healthy, nutritious and locally sourced foods. These veteran chefs collaborate with the Wylde Center and you may have even met them in the Oakhurst Garden.
Join the Wylde Center’s chefs in our new kitchen! The Wylde Center is offering hands-on cooking classes featuring seasonal produce in tasty and healthy dishes. These classes will also revisit classic kitchen techniques like fermenting, canning, and freezing. Classes are a collaborative effort of the Wylde Center and the Decatur Active Living team. All classes will be taught at the Decatur Recreation Center’s new teaching kitchen. Advance registration with the Wylde Center is required. Classes are $30-40, register at www.wyldecenter.org
