The Wednesday Market is returning to the lawn of the First Baptist Church on March 25. Be sure to ride your bike over and have it registered. Jennifer Ross from the Decatur Police will be on hand to register your bike in the event that it is stolen. If recovered, they will be able to trace it and return it to you.

Hope to see you at the Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Stay Active in Decatur This Weekend!

Walk, Bike, Jog……just stay active in Decatur this weekend~

Join Decatur Bikes for a no-drop ride along the PATH. Meet in the CVS Parking lot across from Decatur Bikes at 7:45 am and be ready to ride at 8 am. This is a very fun group!

City of Decatur Pools are open this weekend through Monday. Enjoy the end of the season with a refreshing swim.

Hang out at one of the great City of Decatur parks or walk your dog over to one of three dog parks in the city.

Ride your bike to the Decatur Book Festival and leave it at the Bike Valet on N McDonough Street in front of the County Courthouse. Atlanta Bicycle Coalition will have racks and volunteers ready to take good care of your bike while you walk around the festival. No need to drive and figure out where to park that  car. Join in one the Children’s Parades held at the opening of each day.

Jog or walk on over to the Decatur Library for the Friends of the Library Book Sale on the front lawn from 9 am until 3 pm. I LOVE this sale so will probably see you there! Arrive early as the books fly off the shelves.

Then head on over to the Decatur Farmer’s Market at the corner of N McDonough and Trinity to stock up on fresh grown produce, honey, and more. Support the local farmers.

Coming in from outside Decatur? Hop on MARTA and arrive at the Decatur Station, directly underneath the festival. How convenient is that? Enjoy a car-free weekend!

 

Peach Jam at the Decatur Farmer’s Market is June 25th

Peach Jam LogoCome to the Decatur Farmers Markets next week for the 4th Annual Peach Jam – a celebration of Georgia’s favorite fruit! Amateurs and professionals are submitting their unique peach recipes for crowd judging!!!

 Wednesday, June 25, 4PM-7PM. Front Lawn of Decatur First Baptist Church.

Help pick the 2014 Peach BBQ Sauce Competition winner! For a donation of $7 you’ll get a plate of Burnt Fork BBQ, some grilled veggie sides, unlimited peach BBQ sauce samples and a spoon to vote for your favorite! Special surprise: Peach iced tea and sliders from Revolution Doughnuts!

A true figure and friendly face of our market, Greg Brown of Greenleaf Farms will be unable to attend for the rest of the market season due to health difficulties. To help support a man who has given so much, the Decatur Advisory Group will be hosting a very special BBQ fundraiser at the market on October 9th. All proceeds go to support Greg, so come out and have a delicious dinner of Tinks beef BBQ sandwiches, roasted market veggies and more!

Tour de Farm is October 12th and 13th

Join us for the second annual Metro Atlanta Tour de
Farm on Saturday, October 12th and Sunday October 13th
– a
unique two day bicycle tour* of urban farms, including world class meals and an
overnight camping trip on a local farm site. Proceeds from the event will
benefit Community Farmers Markets and the participating sites.

All of the farms, gardens, and value-added producer sites are
vendors or partners of the East Atlanta Village, Grant Park, or Decatur Farmers
Markets. Each farm or vendor site represents
a unique aspect of local sustainable agriculture, offering a great learning
experience for the local cyclist, gardener and foodie. Riders have the option
of participating in the whole tour with camping, for one day only, or only for
the dinner and overnight camping option.

All meals and snacks will be provided and primarily
sourced from the farms on the tour and other market vendors. Dinner will
feature a local celebrity chef. Guests should bring their own cycling and
camping gear, with the option to rent from CFM if needed. CFM will provide
transport for all food and gear. Riders are only expected to carry water
between farms. The ride will be physically challenging and participants are
expected to have urban cycling experience. Each day will be over 20 miles of
riding. Ride leaders and mechanics will be present. A free bicycle check and
urban test ride will be offered prior to tour if needed.

There are limited spaces for the tour, so please

for early registration include a garden consultation from Edible Yard &
Garden and a 1-hour massage from Atlanta Massage Therapy (valued at $70).

Be Active This Weekend in Decatur

There are a lot of fun ways to stay active in Decatur this weekend.

On Friday night, enjoy the annual Decatur Beach Party, a fundraiser for the Decatur Business Association. Play in the sand, enjoy boardwalk games, and dance to the wonderful sounds of Yacht Rock Schooner. The Beach Party begins at 5pm, music begins at 8pm, and the fun lasts until 11pm. On Saturday be sure to visit the Decatur Farmer’s Market where they will be celebrating 10 years in Decatur. Cakes and Ale Chef/owner Billy Allin will be doing a demonstration at 9:30 a.m. in conjunction with Georgia Pastured Poultry Week. There will also be a silent auction and fun activities. The Farmer’s Market is located at the corner of N McDonough and Trinity Place and will be open from 9 until 1pm. Click here for more information.

On Sunday take some time to visit your favorite Decatur Park, and then stop by one of our three great pools. McKoy Pool is great for the smaller children and Ebster Pool is popular with the older children since it has the only diving board of our three pools. For information on Decatur pools, click here.

Food Day at Decatur Farmer’s Market

The City of Decatur is celebrating the first annual Food Day this coming Saturday, October 22 at the Decatur Farmer’s Market. Join GA State Graduate students as they present “The Great Pumpkin – Sweet and Savory Ways to Enjoy a Delicious Fall Food.”  They will be sharing recipes using pumpkins as well as giving samples of dishes prepared with pumpkin.

Food Day events are being held across the nation to encourage Americans to “Eat Real”. Food Day goals are to inspire Americans to forgo fast foods, processed foods and sodas, and instead nourish our bodies with foods including fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Join us for “Food Day at the Decatur Farmer’s Market, on Saturday, October 22 at 10am. The market is located at 498 N McDonough Street in downtown Decatur.

Decatur Chef Demo Series-What’s in Season?

Join the folks at the Decatur Farmers’ Market for secrets of cooking with fresh, local, seasonal produce presented by Decatur restaurant chefs. The series will be held on Saturdays, from 10:30 until 11:30 am at the market on the corner of N.McDonough and Trinity Place.
