Third Sunday Stroll
This month’s stroll will be on Sunday, March 19 at 2pm. Meet in front of the Decatur Recreation Center for a stroll through downtown with members of the Pedestrian Advisory Committee.

 

Fourth Thursday Bright at Night Walk
Discover Decatur at night with a walk through the City. Walkers receive a free light to wear and keep to “Be Safe and Be Seen”. Meet in front of Decatur Recreation Center at 7:30 pm.

50+ Walks
Join Sara, our Adult Program Supervisor, for thees weekly walks. Meet in front of the Decatur Recreation Center at 10 am. Walks average 3 miles and travel through various parts of the City.

Walk With a Doc
These walks have moved to the second Saturday of the month and leave the Decatur Recreation Center at 10 am. Next walk is April 8.

Walk decatur rev 15Join members of the Active Living Board’s Pedestrian Committee for our Fourth Thursday Walk. This month, Richard Cohen will lead the way around Decatur neighborhoods. Meet in front of the Decatur Recreation Center and be ready to walk at 7:30 p.m.

All participants will receive a free light to wear so they can “Be Safe and Be Seen.”

Walk Decatur Invites You to Walk!

Third Sunday Stroll is April 17 at 2 p.m Learn about bees!

Join beekeeper and Decatur resident Stavros Garoufalidis on our next Sunday Stroll, April 17th at 2 p.m. We’ll begin at the Decatur Recreation Center, and then walk through Agnes Scott, the PATH trail, and into the Winnona Park neighborhood, and back to the Recreation center, noticing bee hives and activity along the way. Bring your bee questions!

Fourth Thursday “Bright at Night” Walk is April 28 at 7:30 p.m.

Meet in front of the Decatur Recreation Center for a brisk “Bright at Night” walk with members of the Pedestrian Committee. The walk begins at 7:30 p.m. Walkers will receive a free light to wear and keep. Wear something bright or reflective to be seen!

Sunday Strolls and Bright at Night walks are organized by the Pedestrian Committee of the Active Living Board. They do a great job volunteering their time and energy.  FREE to the community.

Third Thursday Walk is February 25: New Start Location This Month

ar12502569298365Our Bright at Night walk this month takes us to the Oakhurst district.  Instead of our normal meeting place at the Decatur Recreation Center we will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the newly renovated Harmony Park (Located at the intersection of Oakview Road and East Lake Drive.)  We will walk for about an hour along the charming streets of this South Decatur neighborhood. Participants will receive a free Bright at Night light!

Harmony Park is located at the intersection of Oakview And Mead Roads in the Oakhurst business district. Thanks to the Pedestrian committee of the Active Living Board for coordinating this walk.

Bright at Night Walk Thursday at 7:30 pm

Join the Pedestrian Committee of the Active Living Board for the Fourth Thursday Walk this Thursday, January 28 at 7:30 pm. Meet in front of the Decatur Recreation Center and enjoy a three mile walk through Glenwood Estates, Glenlake Park and the Great Lakes.

Enjoy walking through Decatur at night. Participants receive a FREE light to keep and wear on evening walks.

Stay Active and Have Fun in Decatur This Weekend

Jonah McDonald to lead this  month’s Sunday Stroll!

Walk decatur rev 15Join the Decatur Active Living Pedestrian Advisory Committee for the Third Sunday Stroll with Jonah McDonald. Jonah is a storyteller, author and adventure hiking guide. He will be leading a hike this Sunday from the Decatur Recreation Center (231 Sycamore Street) to a loop in the Decatur Cemetery.

This 2.5-mile hike is free and open to the public. Just show up at two and walk with Jonah! He’ll be talking some about the history, showing you an area of the cemetery you may not have seen before, and pointing out some champion trees.

Bike With Mike This Saturday, 2 pm

Mike Sheehan will be leading an Introductory Group Ride this Saturday, November 14 at 2 pm. The ride is appropriate for adult cyclists who have achieved at least a minimum level of cycling ability. Walk There DecaturFriday: Third Friday Fun Bike Ride! Join us for a 5 mile bike ride around Decatur to look at Halloween decor. Meet in front of the Recreation Center and be ready to ride at 6:30pm. More info is here.

Saturday: On Saturday morning, join Live Healthy DeKalb for a FREE 5K at Arabia Mountain. The walk begins at 10 am. Info is here. The first 50 people will receive a special gift! Walk begins at the Nature Center located at 3787 Klondike Road in Lithonia.

Sunday:  Join the Active Living Pedestrian Committee for a Sunday Stroll around Porchfest! Meet Moira at 2pm at the Family Dollar parking lot for an hour walk and listen to music and make new friends.

Bright at Night Fitness Walk Thursday at 7:30 pm

Join us for our first Bright at Night fitness walk this Thursday, March 26th at 7:30pm.

 

As part of the new “Walk Decatur – Explore, Connect and Get Fit” campaign, the Active Living Board’s Pedestrian Advisory Committee (PAC) has scheduled a series of walks around Decatur. The Bright at Night evening fitness walks will take place on the fourth Thursday of every month, starting this week. The walks will follow a “no drop” policy, meaning that no walkers will be left behind. This will provide an opportunity for participants of all abilities to walk for exercise in a group setting. Walks will begin and end at the Decatur Recreation Center and will include tips on pedestrian safety.  Be sure to wear your brightest clothes, reflectors and lights.

Get Outside- It is a Beautiful Day!

After lunch , I had some errands to run, so I took to the streets. Seems like others had the same idea- ditch the wheels and get in a walk to enjoy the weather.  Here are some random shots I took of folks out enjoying the day.
