FREE Computer Class: Internet for Seniors

DeKalb County Library and Decatur Active Living have joined together to offer Internet for Seniors on February 7, March 7 or May 2 from 2 – 3:30pm at the Decatur Recreation Center.

Seniors are invited to register for a free computer class conducted by the Dekalb County Public Library.

  • Learn what the internet is and how to navigate it.
  • Look for websites using web address and directories.
  • Perform simple seraches and discuss internet safety.

To register call 678-553-6559 or sign up online at http://www.decaturga.com/webtrac. Look under Active Adult Classes. Classes are held at the Decatur Recreation Center, 231 Sycamore Street, 30030.

You saw them at the EXPO, you tried a few of them, and now the NEW classes are starting. Register online at decaturga.com/webtrac or at the front desk when you arrive. Here’s the rundown on what’s happening this week and a few that start in February:

NEW! Ageless Grace – Tuesdays, Thursdays, kicked off today with 5 enrolled today in the dance studio, join in the seated dance and fitness movement with Sandy

NEW! Yoga – Mondays, Fridays, So far 5 are signed up for the seated class on Monday which will start next week on Jan 27 with Mariam

NEW! Watercolor & Tea, Thursdays, started last week with 2 enrolled and several more desired for a full class w/Sylvia. Bring a mug for tea and your paints/brushes/paper.

NEW! Lunch & Learn – Fridays, kicks off Friday Jan 24 @1130, free and open to the public. Bring a lunch and pop in for the 30-minute health & wellness demo: Making Green Smoothies with Jennifer.

Watercolor & Tea in the afternoon started today! We learned color wheel, brush strokes, gradations, wash, hues, tones, and more. We painted 2 subjects. And we enjoyed apple caramel cinnamon tea, green citrus tea, and pom juice. Join us next week, every Thursday afternoon at 230pm w/Sylvia! Oh, and we listen to music and talk about art!
We also have jewelry making with master metalsmith Gillian who has work on display at the High Museum and needle crafts such as knitting, crochet, macrame, fleece braiding and more for adults. If you are free during the day, looking to challenge yourself with learning something new, come on by. Many classes start up in February and some right now. Other enrichment can be found in Internet for Seniors, Sparkle for Health, Sign Language, Simply Delicious Cooking, and Lunch & Learn on 4th fridays. Expo January 11 – Come Sample all the NEW Classes

decatur-active-living-expo-flyerWondering what’s NEW at the recreation center? Or didn’t realize there was anything new, well it’s true and we’ve got plenty of news to share. Here’s a sneak preview of the year ahead and save the date for the Expo on January 11 from 10am to noon. A new building, new classes, new year, and a new you! Save the date now for a fun-filled, active, expo and the chance to sample all the new fun activities and classes and meet and chat with the instructors. Meanwhile there is still no membership fee, just come and pay for the class you want to take. It’s that simple.

Come meet the instructors and sample ALL our NEW classes proposed this winter. From 10am to noon we will feature short 10-minute demos of new classes where you can try them out and talk to the instructors. We’ll have free drawings (see BINGO card) and booths to feature our new enrichment and artistic offerings as well. Stop by while the youth are playing basketball, before lunch, after Run With the Dogs 5k, or during your Saturday shopping.
